Claudia Cardinale

Claudia Cardinale listens to Ella Fitzgerald records, 1959...
The unmistakable, naturally deep voice, the sun-kissed olive tan, the long, dark & silky tresses, the cat-eyes lined with the classic, black strokes, synonymous with the 60s... Claudia Cardinale is, in my opinion, one of the undisputed European sex kittens of the last century. With a look that makes you wanna down tools & leave England for good, escape to some sultry, rustic village in Italy & live bare-foot in a sensual, yet make-shift dress, cooking everything in olive oil till you die, Cardinale epitomised the hot-blooded Italian vixen!! It is disappointingly clear that God just don't make us women like her anymore. Although this is the case, there is no reason why we can't find any way possible to personify & ooze this natural glamour & really wiggle 'what your mama gave you!'
Claudia Cardinale was born 15 April 1938 in Tunisia to Italian parents. Claudia became a huge star after winning a beauty pageant at the tender age of 17, where she found herself not only winning the competition, but landing herself a film contract in Italy!
Throughout the 1960s & '70s, she appeared in some of what was to become, the most acclaimed Italian and European films of the period. Her movies include Luchino Visconti's 'Rocco e i suoi fratelli' (Rocco and His Brothers 1960), 'Il Gattopardo' (The Leopard, 1963), Philippe de Broca's 'Cartouche' (1963), Federico Fellini's 'Otto e mezzo' (8½ 1963 & Sergio Leone's epic 'Once Upon a Time in the West' (1968).

In her early, mainly Italian films, another actress was called to duty to dub over Cardinale's voice with her own, as Cardinale possessed a naturally deep & hoarse voice. Ironically it was her voice that would later become one of the reasons of her success, as it contrasted greatly with her very feminine & womanly appearance.

Although Italian, Claudia didn't speak Italian, having grown-up in Tunisia where one of the main dialects is French, but when she didn't it was said that she initially spoke the language with a slight French accent, something that, reportedly, bothered Italian audiences of the time! It was not until 8½ hit the screens, that was she allowed to dub her own dialogue...

Here is a tribute to the beautiful woman herself, using some pics that I found on the net. I do not own the rights to or have taken any of these images myself.

Hope you enjoy...
